Use PMT to offer 1 PDU for on-site training on inquiry lesson planning!
Hours and Credits
Schools have the option of combining the 2.5-hour Picture Me Thinking video course with 7.5 hours of on-site collaborative lesson planning to, provide 10 hours of professional development. For most states, 10 hours is equal to one PDU or CEU credit. The only cost for this training is the teachers' subscription to the PMT course ($45 per teacher).
Structure and Goals
The video course and PMT Tools provide structure and focus for collaborative lesson planning sessions. These sessions can also include reciprocal mentoring framed by the PMT Teacher Reflective Assessment Tool. The goal for each session is for teachers to outline a flexible inquiry-to-writing lesson plan that includes disciplinary core concepts from their discipline(s).
Benefits and Outcomes
Using the PMT Model to frame inquiry lesson plans makes peer collaboration productive. Further, it ensures that their instruction builds the cognitive and language skills students need to learn effectivelly and be productive teammates.
Leadership and Pace
The collaborative lesson planning sessions must be facilitated by an administrator, department head, or trainer, who will document each teacher's 7.5 hours of participation. Teachers should complete the five-level online course at the pace of one level every two weeks (10-week duration). This allows time for classroom practice before moving to the next level.
The 7.5 hours can be divided into 90 minutes for each of the five levels of the video course. The on-site training can be segmented into 10 sessions of 45 minutes, delivered once a week. These sessions can be incorporated into staff or department meetings. This option makes the program cost-effective and time effective, with no substitute teacher cost!
Documentation and State Regulations
Teachers will receive a certificate of completion for the 2.5-hour PMT video course. Schools use the PDU Hours Verification Form to document the 7.5 hours of onsite training. PDU or CEU credit for the course is subject to individual state regulations, and administrators should verify state requirements. We do not guarantee compliance with state requirements.
