Administrators
Picture Me Thinking has all the tools you need to conduct a pilot study: Teacher Experience Surveys, Student Inquiry-Dialogue Participation and Essay Scoring Assessments, and Teacher Reflection and Coaching Tools that build teachers' confidence at delivering inquiry-to-writing instruction on disciplinary core concepts across subjects in grades 5-12.
Teacher Survey and Ratings
The Teacher Survey is offered three times to assess the benefits of the PMT course. It is given 1) before taking the course, 2) upon completion of the course, and 3) three weeks following course completion (an 8-week pilot study).
The Survey assesses teacher satisfaction and progress on eight factors. The first four factors are used for pre-course assessment. The full eight factors are used for post-course and again for post-instructional practice assessments:
- Clarity on inquiry-to-writing instructional design.
- Confidence in instructional planning and delivery.
- Agility in response to student dialogue and learning.
- Resources for inquiry-to-writing academic content.
- Adoption of the PMT Model by teachers and students.
- Effectiveness of using the Model to frame instruction.
- Outcomes based on PMT student assessment tools.
- Significance of providing inquiry-to-writing instruction.
To download the PMT survey, go to the first page of our administrator website at https://picturemethinking.org/. You can use page one, the first four factors, to assess the need for the PMT course at your school.
Observation and Coaching Protocol
The fifteen-point Teacher Reflection Template is designed to help teachers develop expertise and confidence.
Following observations, teachers and peer coaches will identify which tools and methods were used, which could be targets for the next round of instruction, and which are targets for coaching in professional learning communities.
This tool can also be used for observations and coaching by instructional leaders. Once teachers are comfortable using all fifteen of the tools and methods in the Teacher Reflection Template, they will have attained the necessary and sufficient expertise for leading inquiry-to-writing instruction.
